What is Fountain Used For?
RxSkin Fountain is indicated for the topical treatment of fine lines, wrinkles, and other visible signs of skin aging. This formulation combines a prescription-strength retinoid with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and hydrating components to improve the appearance of aging skin.

How Does Fountain Work?
RxSkin Fountain combines multiple active ingredients to target signs of aging through complementary mechanisms. Tretinoin, a retinoid, works by stimulating cell turnover and promoting the shedding of old skin cells while encouraging the growth of new ones. This helps improve skin texture, reduce fine lines, and even out skin tone. Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (Vitamin C derivative) acts as a powerful antioxidant, protecting the skin from free radical damage and supporting collagen synthesis. Bisabolol and Aloe Vera provide anti-inflammatory and soothing effects, while Vitamin E Acetate and Ferulic Acid offer additional antioxidant protection and hydration to enhance skin barrier function.

Pharmacology and Mechanism of Action
Tretinoin (0.03%) is a retinoid that modulates epithelial cell growth and differentiation. It binds to specific nuclear retinoic acid receptors (RARs), particularly RAR-γ in the skin, leading to changes in gene transcription. This enhances epidermal cell turnover, promoting the exfoliation of keratinized skin cells while encouraging the production of new cells. Additionally, tretinoin stimulates fibroblast activity, promoting collagen synthesis and reducing collagen degradation by inhibiting matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), enzymes responsible for breaking down extracellular matrix components.

Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (2%), a lipid-soluble derivative of Vitamin C, penetrates deeper into the dermis than traditional ascorbic acid. It supports collagen production by acting as a cofactor for prolyl hydroxylase and lysyl hydroxylase, enzymes crucial for collagen stabilization and cross-linking. It also acts as an antioxidant, neutralizing free radicals that contribute to photoaging and environmental damage.

Bisabolol (0.1%), a natural anti-inflammatory compound derived from chamomile, inhibits the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1 and TNF-α, which helps soothe irritated skin. It also possesses antimicrobial properties, supporting the skin's barrier function.

Vitamin E Acetate (1%) functions as a lipid-based antioxidant, protecting cell membranes from oxidative damage. Upon topical application, it is gradually hydrolyzed by skin esterases to yield free tocopherol, the biologically active form of vitamin E. Tocopherol acts by scavenging free radicals and reactive oxygen species, which are generated by ultraviolet radiation and environmental stressors, thereby mitigating oxidative damage to skin cells and lipids. It also plays a supportive role in enhancing skin hydration by improving the water-binding capacity of the stratum corneum, indirectly aiding in the restoration of skin suppleness and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Aloe Vera 200:1 Extract (2%)  exerts multiple pharmacodynamic actions that support skin health and repair, particularly in formulations designed for anti-aging. The polysaccharides in aloe vera form a protective, moisturizing barrier on the skin, enhancing water retention in the stratum corneum and improving skin hydration. Aloe vera also possesses notable anti-inflammatory properties, mediated in part by inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX) and subsequent prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) synthesis. This helps reduce erythema, edema, and irritation in inflamed or sensitive skin. The antioxidative effects of aloe vera assist in neutralizing reactive oxygen species and protecting against oxidative stress, a key contributor to photoaging.

Ferulic Acid (0.05%) exerts its effects primarily through its potent free radical scavenging ability. It neutralizes reactive oxygen species, including hydroxyl radicals, superoxide, and nitric oxide, which are known to accelerate skin aging by damaging cellular structures, proteins, and DNA. This potent plant-based antioxidant also stabilizes Vitamins C and E, enhancing their effectiveness in the formulation. Additionally, Ferulic Acid’s anti-inflammatory effects are demonstrated by modulating signaling pathways involved in skin irritation and inflammatory cytokine production.

Dosage Form
RxSkin Fountain is formulated as an anhydrous cream. Each pump dispenses 0.25 mL, intended for application as a thin, even layer massaged into the affected skin areas.

How to Use Fountain
Use 2 pumps to apply a thin layer of the cream to the affected areas and gently massage upwards into the skin. The product is to be used once daily at bedtime or as directed by a healthcare provider. Prior to application, cleanse the skin with a gentle cleanser and pat dry. Allow the skin to dry completely for 5 to 10 minutes before applying the cream. Hands should be washed both before and after application.

Do not use Increased amounts of Fountain to make up for a dose that you have missed. Continue with your usual dosing schedule

To achieve optimal results, avoid washing the face or applying other skincare products, including makeup, for at least one hour following application. Avoid contact with the eyes, mucous membranes, and broken or irritated skin. In the event of accidental contact, rinse thoroughly with water.

A moisturizing sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher should be used during the day to minimize skin irritation and enhance the treatment's benefits.

Fountain may cause dryness, redness, or peeling during the initial weeks of use. To ease into treatment and minimize irritation, consider applying Fountain every third night for the first 1–2 weeks. If the irritation subsides, the frequency of application may be increased to every other night during weeks 3 and 4. After approximately 4 weeks, consider a nightly application for best results.

When to Expect Results
Improvements may take several weeks to become noticeable. Initial use, typically within the first 4 to 6 weeks, may cause temporary skin irritation, redness, and dryness. The formulation contains hydrating and soothing agents designed to reduce these effects.

By weeks 8 to 12, users may observe improvements in skin elasticity, texture, and tone, with a reduction in wrinkles and fine lines. Continued use in combination with sun protection is recommended for sustained benefits.

Who Should not Use Fountain?
RxSkin Fountain is contraindicated in individuals with:

  • Known hypersensitivity to any of the active or inactive ingredients
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Severe skin conditions such as rosacea, perioral dermatitis, or open wounds in the application area

Possible Side Effects & What to Watch For
When first starting treatment, your skin may go through an “adjustment period.” This is normal and often temporary. Most side effects are mild to moderate and tend to improve as your skin builds tolerance to the treatment. If these effects persist beyond 2 to 4 weeks, or become uncomfortable, please consult your healthcare provider.

Common side effects (>10%) include:

  • Mild to moderate skin irritation
  • Sun sensitivity
  • Warmth, stinging, or burning sensation
  • Redness
  • Dryness
  • Peeling
  • Itching
  • Hypopigmentation

Less common side effects (<10%) include:

  • Dermatitis
  • Application site pain
  • Hyperpigmentation
